APPLE BUTTER CAKE LAYER CAKE

3 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 1/4 cups sugar
3 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 cups Musselman's Apple Butter
Creamy Vanilla Frosting (recipe follows)

Stir together flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and ground cloves; set aside.

Beat butter and sugar together until fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time; set aside.

Combine buttermilk and apple butter. Add alternately with the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition.

Pour into 2 greased 9-inch round pans.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 35 to 40 minutes. Remove from pan. Cool thoroughly on cake rack.

Frost cooled cake with Creamy Vanilla Frosting.

CREAMY VANILLA FROSTING

1/2 cup softened butter or margarine
1/4 cup evaporated milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 pound powdered sugar (4 cups)

Combine all ingredients for the frosting in a small mixing bowl. Mix until frosting is smooth and shiny. If consistency is too thick, add a few more drops of evaporated milk.

Frost cooled Apple Batter Layer Cake.

Makes 1 (13x9-inch) cake
