Recipe: Apple Crumb Pie

Apple Crumb Pie

4 large tart apples (such as Granny Smith)
1 cup sugar, divided
1 tsp cinnamon
3/4 cup flour
1/3 cup butter (5-1/3 tablespoons)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Pare apples; cut into eighths, and arrange in a deep dish pastry crust (fine to use frozen deep dish pie shells, such as Pet Ritz or Mrs. Smith's).

Mix 1/2 cup sugar with cinnamon; sprinkle over apples. Sift 1/2 cup sugar with 3/4 cup flour; cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples.

Bake for 40 to 50 minutes.
