Recipe: Apple Fritters (using chopped apple) (Mazola Oil, 1951)

APPLE FRITTERS

1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
2 eggs, separated
1/4 cup milk
1 1/2 cups chopped or grated apples
1/2 cup Mazola Salad Oil

Sift together dry ingredients; set aside.

Combine egg yolks and milk, and add to dry ingredients, mixing only until smooth. Add grated apple. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.

Heat oil in a skillet about 3 minutes. Drop batter by spoonfuls into hot oil and fry until golden brown on one side; turn to brown other side.

Serve hot with syrup.

Makes 12 fritters
