Recipe: Hearty Spaghetti Sauce (using ground beef and mushrooms)

HEARTY SPAGHETTI SAUCE

"This easy sauce requires just minutes of preparation and simmers 'til supper time." - Kimberly Rockwell, Charlotte, North Carolina

1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef (90% lean)
1 large onion, chopped
1 large green bell pepper, chopped
1/2 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
3 cans (15 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

In a large saucepan coated with cooking spray, cook the beef, onion and green pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain.

Add the mushrooms; cook and stir for 2 minutes.

Stir in the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours.

Makes 12 servings
