Bake Sale Brownies - Quick Additions
rec.food.cooking/Alas, Babylon/2000
I get frequent requests from my kids & the schools/organizations to which they belong to make something for a bake sale or dessert table at a fund raiser. I have always relied on brownies for this as they are quick & easy & both kids & grown-ups love them.
It seems, though, that I am not always the only parent who relies on a speedy pan of brownies to fulfill the obligation & my kids complained that they wanted what they brought to be "different." I used a few variations, that while not unique, I am sure, pleased the kidlets.
I am not posting a brownie recipe, as most folks have a favorite or two, but just the combo additions to give them a "twist."
For a 13x9 pan of brownies:
Rocky Road Brownies
After batter is mixed, stir in:
3/4 cup miniature marshmallows
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or equivalent in chunks
3/4 cup walnuts or pecans
Trail Mix Brownies
After batter is mixed, stir in:
3/4 cup M & M's
3/4 cup raisins
3/4 cup dry roasted peanuts, walnuts or pecans
Magic Mint Brownies:
About 1- 2 minutes before brownies are to come out of the oven, place chocolate covered mints (such as "After Dinner") at 1-inch intervals all over top of brownies. Return briefly to oven. After removal from oven, while brownies are quite hot, gently spread melted chocolate mint over top, as a frosting.
