Not sure if this is what you're looking for. I found it in an old cookbook.
Broiled Icing
For a 13x9 cake:
6 Tbs. soft butter
3/4 c brown sugar
4 Tbs. canned evaporated milk (or rich cream)
1/2 c nuts, cut up

For a 9 inch square pan:
1/4 c soft butter
1/2 c brown sugar
3 Tbs. canned evaporated milk (or rich cream)
1/3 c nuts, cut up

Mix ingredients together in bowl. Spread over top of warm cake. Place about 3 inches under broiler until mixture browns. Watch carefully. Extra flavor and crunch may be had by adding 1 cup shredded coconut; or 1 cup wheaties to above mixture. Good on white, yellow, or chocolate cake. A quick way to finish a cake.
