If you know about Buddy's Pizza (in Michigan) then you know the house salad dressing is to die for! I used to get salads there all the time...just because of the dressing. But now, the salads are so much smaller (the large was like the old "small" it seemed) and it was a whopping $12.00! Sure, a little ham, cheese and salami but most of it is just lettuce...waaay too expensive!!
So, I after my last take out of salad dressing I kept some aside trying to duplicate it. I came up with a recipe that tastes just like it...to me anyway. Give it a try and please post your thoughts on how close it tastes to the original.
BUDDY'S HOUSE SALAD DRESSING
(copycat recipe)
Blend some fresh onion (I used Vidalia onion) in blender with a little vegetable oil. You only want to add just enough oil to the onion so it will puree in the blender. Strain. Use strained onion juice/oil for the recipe.
1/4 cup + 1 tsp red wine vine vinegar
1/4 cup + 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup regular vinegar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons strained onion/oil juice
1/4 teaspoon (give or take) of dried mixed italian spices
Mix all of the above and enjoy on your next salad!!
