Recipe: Cabbage Chowder (with carrots and potatoes)

4 cups shredded cabbage
3 cups diced potatoes
2 cups sliced carrots
2 cups water
1 tablespoon salt (or to taste)
1/2 tablespoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon sugar
2 tablespoons butter
4 cups milk
Crackers (for serving)
Combine all ingredients except butter and milk in a large pot and simmer over low heat until well done.
Stir in butter and milk. Serve hot with crackers.
Makes 8 servings
