CALICO APPLESAUCE CAKE
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup canned applesauce
1 pkg semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup dark raisins
1/2 cup chopped nuts (your choice)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 13x9-inch baking pan.
In large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat until blended.
Mix flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt together and add alternately with applesauce, blending well after each addition. Stir in chocolate chips, raisins, and nuts.
Pour into prepared pan and bake for 40 minutes, or until it tests done. Cool in pan.
Dust with powdered sugar. Cut up in the pan and serve.
