Recipe(tried): Devil Dogs (like whoopie pies with marshmallow cream filling)

DEVIL DOGS

FOR THE CAKES:
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup milk

FOR THE FILLING:
3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 1/3 cups powdered sugar
1/2 of a 7 ounce jar marshmallow creme (1 cup)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

TO MAKE THE CAKES:
Cream shortening, sugar and egg together. Add cocoa powder; set aside.

Sift flour, baking soda and salt together. Add to the creamed mixture with milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Drop by teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake at 400 degrees F for 8-10 minutes. Cool.

Spread frosting on flat sides of Devil Dogs and sandwich together.

TO MAKE THE FROSTING:
Beat butter, powdered sugar and marshmallow cream together until creamy. Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.
