Recipe: East Indian Tomato Soup from 1937

EAST INDIAN TOMATO SOUP FROM 1937

1 large apple, peeled, cored and chopped
2 onions, chopped
3 slices lean bacon
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
salt and pepper to taste
2 whole cloves
1 tablespoon curry powder
1 (28 oz) can tomatoes
6 cups bouillon
1/2 cup cooked rice

Chop the apple and onion roughly and cook with bacon, sugar, salt and spices and the tomatoes in a saucepan until reduced to a soft pulp. Strain and rub through a sieve.

Add bouillon and cooked rice and heat together.
