In reading our local newspaper, I found the following Easter
recipe.
EASTER EGG BREAD (bread machine recipe)
----------------
1 cup lukewarm water
2 tablespoons margarine or butter softened
2 tablespoons instant dry milk powder
3 teaspoons grated orange peel
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 large egg, beaten
3-1/4 cups bread flour
1/2 cup chopped almonds
3 teaspoons bread machine yeast
GARNISH:
7 clean raw eggs
Food coloring
Frosting
Add ingredients in order listed, ending with yeast, to the baking pan of automatic breadmaker. Follow directions for mixing dough and allowing to rise. In two hours, when dough is ready, turn it onto lightly floured surface and divide in half. Roll each half into a strand about 30 inches long. Twist strands together. Place on a large greased baking sheet, shape into a circle and pinch ends together. Arrange six clean eggs in shell evenly around circle and gently press them between strands. Cover and let rise in warm, draft-free place for 30 to 40 minutes, until doubled in size.
Beat remaining egg with one tablespoon water, brush over dough (not the eggs). Bake 30 to 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from baking sheet and cool on wire rack. Brush eggs with food coloring if desired. When cool, drizzle loaf with mixture of 1 cup sifted powedered sugar and 2 to 3 tablespoons orange juice. Store in refrigerator. Makes one coffee cake. (From Black & Decker)
NOTE: According to what I have seen for bread machine recipes, it is usually advised to follow the bread machine's instructions first (i.e. DAK machines would place ingredients in the opposite order of the Black and Decker). Also rising time may vary with machine. This is just my opinion, since I have not tried this recipe yet, but will do this weekend. Yummy!!!
