Recipe: Easy Sourdough Pumpkin Loaves with Golden Glaze (using sourdough starter, 1970's)

FOR THE BREAD:
2 cup biscuit mix (like Bisquick)
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup sourdough starter
1/2 cup canned pumpkin puree (not sweetened pie filling)
1/2 cup raisins
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons oil
Golden Glaze (recipe follows)
TO PREPARE THE BREAD:
Stir together (dry) biscuit mix, sugar, cinnamon, allspice and cloves; set aside.
Combine sourdough starter with pumpkin, raisins, egg, milk and salad oil. Add to dry ingredients. Stir just until blended. Turn into three greased (5 1/2 x 3 x 2-inch) or pan one (9 1/4 x 5 1/4 x 3-inch) loaf pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 35 to 40 minutes or 50 to 55 minutes for a large loaf. Cool for 5 minutes. Remove from pan. Cool and spread with Golden Glaze.
GOLDEN GLAZE
Halve recipe to glaze 1 large loaf.
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons light cream
Few drops yellow food coloring
Combine sugar, cream and food coloring. Spread on cooled pumpkin loaves.
Makes 1 large loaf or 3 smaller loaves.
