Recipe: Graham Cracker Date-Nut Torte (Mary Margaret McBride recipe, 1950's)

Desserts - Cakes
GRAHAM CRACKER DATE-NUT TORTE

2 cups graham cracker crumbs (about 20 graham crackers)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
3 eggs, well beaten
3 cups chopped pitted dates
3 tablespoons flour
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/3 cup milk
Whipped Cream (for serving)

Combine graham cracker crumbs, salt, baking powder, and sugar. Add eggs; set aside.

Toss dates in flour to keep them from sticking. Add floured dates, nuts, vanilla, and milk to crumb mixture. Pour mixture into a greased 8-inch square pan.

Bake in slow oven (325 degrees F) 45 minutes. Cut into squares. Top each with whipped cream.

Makes 1 (8-inch) square cake
