Recipe(tried): Gut Buster Chili (with coffee, cocoa, and orange zest)

Main Dishes - Chilis, Stews
GUT BUSTER CHILI

4 pounds coarsley ground beef for chili
2 yellow onions, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 green peppers, chopped
2 cups brewed coffee
1 (14 oz.) can diced tomatoes
1 (8 oz.) can tomato paste
1 (8 oz.) can diced green chilies
1/4 cup chili powder (4 tablespoons)
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 tablespoons salt or to taste
1 1/2 tablespoons cumin
4 teaspoons grated orange zest
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
2 bay leaves

In large soup kettle, saute beef, onions and garlic. Drain off excess liquid.

Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 1 hour, until flavors are developed and mellowed.

Serves 8 to 10.

My husband found this recipe in one of his cookbooks. It has become our favorite chili.
