I just made these yesterday and when I want hamburger buns, I always make these.
Wonder Buns
2 pkg. dry yeast
1/2 cup lukewarm water
1/2 tsp. salt
Mix and let stand 10 minutes.
Add:
1/2 cup warm water
3 tbsp. melted lard or Crisco
3 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
Mix in 3 1/2 cups flour (you may need to knead in the last amounts)
Let raise until doubled in size.
Punch down and form into about half the bun size you want.
Let raise again 1/2 to 1 hour.
Bake 400 degrees for 15 min.
To keep buns from getting too dark, place a sheet of foil loosely over the top when they have reached the darkness you want.
