Recipe: Homemade Doughnuts (using buttermilk and heavy cream)

Breakfast and Brunch
HOMEMADE DOUGHNUTS

3 1/2 cups sifted flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk or sour milk
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup heavy cream
Oil (for deep frying)

Sift flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg together; set aside.

Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk; set aside.

Beat eggs in mixing bowl. Add sugar. Beat well. Add heavy cream. Add flour mixture and buttermilk alternately to egg mixture.

Chill several hours.

Roll 1/4-inch thick. Cut into forms.

Fry in deep hot fat at 360 degrees F.
