Recipe: How to Roast Nuts, Peanuts and Chestnuts
Misc. Hi Don,
Here's info for you:
NUTS--ROASTING SHELLED NUTS
Mix 1 teaspoon cooking oil or melted butter or margarine with each cup of nut meats.
Spread nuts on a shallow pan.
Roast in oven at 350 degrees F for 5 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned, stirring occasionally.
If desired, nuts may be toasted without the addition of fat.
Sprinkle hot roasted nuts with salt, if desired.
Drain on absorbent paper.
Toasting may also be done in a heavy pan on top of the range.
Heat nutmeats slowly for 10 to 15 minutes until lightly browned, stirring frequently.
TO ROAST PEANUTS
To roast peanuts in the shell, place them in a shallow pan at 300 F for 30 to 40 minutes.
If they are shelled, roast them for 20 to 25 minutes and stir frequently to prevent scorching.
CHESTNUTS--ROAST IN THE SHELL
Slash through the shells on the flat side of the nuts. Place chestnuts, cut sides up, on a baking sheet. Roast at 400 degree F (hot oven) until tender, about 20 minutes. Insert fork through cut in shell to test tenderness.
