Recipe: Ideas for 60th b-day

Holidays, Celebrations
I also have several suggestions for this birthday party. My own grandfather was a school principal, and I'm not sure whether your husband has "stories" like my grandfather did. I think it would be very cute to do a "This is your life" kind of thing. You can have a childhood friend, one from college, several students or fellow teachers, and maybe a child or sibling. In order of the time in which they came into your husband's life, they would stand behind a curtain and tell a story about him. Then your husband will guess who it could be. It's funny, because you have an anecdote from the person but also the look on the celebrant's face is often humorous because they begin to think about that time and how long it's been! If you have grandkids, it would be especially cute to include them in some way! My neices and nephews actually dressed like birthday candles and sang happy b-day to my grandmother for her 75th a few years back. It was the hit of the evening. I always like to incorporate things that may have been special for the celebrant. I did a rehearsal dinner once where each table had a theme. The bride was a teacher and tennis coach. We had a traditional brides table all in white, a teacher table that was decorated with teaching related things, and, of course, a tennis table. For the groom we did the same thing. We did a camo table(he's a hunter), a golf table(he's a golf coach) and you could go on and on! You could probably even use things that you have already in your home. And if you have picture frames that correspond to that specific theme, why not put a pic in that frame. It's a great way to honor him without the depressing black. Actually, if you wanted, you could do one table in black...perhaps with a 60 in the middle! This also creates a mingling atmosphere because everyone wants to see each table even though they may not be seated at that table! Just an idea! Good luck!
