Recipe(tried): Kiffles

Breads - Yeast Breads
I grew up in Butler and loved Kiffles and have looked everywhere for the recipe and came across this one. It tastes good and pretty close to the ones from the bakery, however, it was a recipe a friend of mine found in her grandmothers recipe book and she was Hungarian.

KIFFLES

2/3 cup white sugar
2 cups warm water
1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
6 cups flour
beaten egg (for top)
poppy seeds (for top)

Dissolve sugar in water; add dry yeast and let set 10 minutes (will see a creamy foam).

Add salt and oil. Add flour, 4 cups at once, then mix and slowly add last 2 cups. Let rise 2 hours.

Punch dough down, and form into crescents on a lightly-greased baking sheet. Brush on egg to tops and sprinkle with poppy seeds. Let rise 30 minutes.

Bake in 350 degree F oven until golden brown on top.
