Recipe: Macaroni and Cheese Cake

Hi Thomas,

I've never had the dish at Semolina's, but maybe this recipe will be a good starting point for experimenting. You could top the finished dish with butter bread crumbs, brown under the broiler, and serve with a cheese sauce instead of melting cheese slices on top if that would be more authentic. Please let us know what you come up with!

Macaroni and Cheese Cake

Serves 6 to 8

Macaroni and cheese baked in a cake pan, so it can be sliced as if it were a cake. At home it was served either hot or cold.

1 1/2 cups warm milk
1 cup soft bread crumbs
1/2 cup melted butter
1 1/2 cup grated Velveeta cheese
1/2 tsp. salt and pepper
3 eggs
1 cups cooked macaroni

Pour milk over soft bread crumbs in a large bowl. Add melted butter. Add grated melted cheese, salt and pepper; mix. Add slightly beaten egg and macaroni. Pour in greased 9x9 inch shallow pan. Bake 30 minutes at 325 degrees, remove and add slices of cheese. Return to oven until cheese has melted.
