MAKOWKA (POLISH)
4 to 6 slices white bread
1 lb. ground poppy seed
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups milk (or more as needed)
Line bottom of 3-quart casserole with slice of bread, then poppy seed and then sugar. Do this 3 times.
Bring milk to a boil and pour over the layers. Use more milk as needed to make the bread moist.
Let cool. Cover, refrigerate.
