Recipe: Malaysian Cake Recipe Translation - Hope this helps...by the way it's not bahasa Malaysia but bahasa Indonesia
Desserts - CakesI tried my best on the translation. Hope this helps. By the way it's not Bahasa Malaysia but Bahasa Indonesia
(** my input**)
Ingredients:
500ml eggs
250g sugar
200 ml egg whites
20g sugar
Incorporate these:
60g fluor
250ml ground almond
Buttercream:
500g sugar
60g glucose
250g egg white
1kg butter
1 sdm water ( **not sure what is sdm**)
Method for cake:
Beat egg and sugar until it's light and fluffy
Add in the flour and ground almonds and mix well
Beat egg white and sugar until stiff peak
Add to the egg mixture. Mix well and apparently it says to use your hand to do so.
Divide into 5 portions and pour them in a parchment lined 22cm square tin
Bake in a 230 C oven for 5-10 minutes
That's it. This is really the recipe. Surprising right? (laugh). This is it. This is the result from my phone consultation with Mba Emma (laugh).
Method for Buttercream:
Beat white till medium peak
At the meantime, heat sugar, glucose and water on a low fire. As soon as it boils, add a little at a time to the medium peak egg white. Continue to beat until it reached stiff peak
Add butter, continue to beat till well mixed.
(**sure sounds like Italian Meringue, may want to check out that recipe**)
As a whole, the finishing of this cake is about the same as the other Cake Opera recipe.
Each of the cake is soaked with coffee.
Sequence - cake, buttercream cake, chocolate ganache, cake, buttercream, cake chocolate ganache and so forth.
(**not sure why the author have the below this is the general idea, really a waste of time to translate**)
To make chocolate ganache, there are very many versions. You may them in books, and etc..
If you don't have it yet, you could find the recipe in the other posting of the Opera cake.
.
Oh yes to make the buttercream more interesting you could add in instant coffee (which is diluted with a small amount of hot water.)
Additional of instant coffee is to taste.
There are many variations. You could add strawberry flavor to the buttercream instead of coffee.
Then instead of chocolate ganache layer it with fresh strawberry.
Also instead of soaking cake with coffee, in this case soak them in simple syrup
Try using blueberry, peach, mangoes, etc.?
Why not?
It is clear that with these variations it could no longer be known as Opera cake anymore ( laugh) since opera cake is identified with it's coffee flavor and it's glossy chocolate finish.
