Recipe: Nut Roll

Refrigerated Nut Roll

5 cups. flour
3/4 lb. butter or shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup milk
3 tblsp. sugar
1 yeast cake dissolved in 1/2 cup warm milk

Sift flour, salt, and sugar in deep bowl, add butter, mix by hand as you would for pie crust, add egg yolks, add 1 cup milk and yeast mixture, mix until smooth and dough separates from the sides of bowl. Roll dough in waxed paper. Let stand in refrigerator for 2 hrs. Cut dough into 4 pieces. Roll out one piece on lightly floured board to 1/4 inch thickness, spread filling on
dough, roll up, place in pan, repeat process with other three pieces. Let rest 10 mins. bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour.

2 cups chopped walnuts
1 egg white beaten stiff
11/2 cups sugar

Mix all ingredients, spread on dough mixture, roll and grated rind of 1 lemon, bake.
