OLD FASHIONED GINGERBREAD
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 cup light molasses
2 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp ginger
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup hot water
Line a 2-lb coffee can with flour. Grease and flour the foil.
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg, molasses and dry ingredients; blend well.
Add hot water and beat well. Pour batter into prepared coffee can. Place can in crock pot. Cover top of can with 8 paper towels.
Cover and bake on High setting for 3 to 4 hours. (If using Bread 'n Cake Bake Pan, bake in covered pan on high setting for 2 to 3 hours.) Do not check or remove cover until the last hour of baking.
Remove can and discard paper towels. Let stand 5 minutes. Unmold on cake rack.
