Recipe: Piggy Wiggly Brownies (from a former employee)

PIGGLY WIGGLY BROWNIES

"This is Mrs. Stranger's recipe from the Piggly Wiggly. Be sure to use butter where it says butter and margarine where it says margarine. There is no liquid in the icing."

2 cups sugar
1/2 cups Crisco shortening
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, softened
4 eggs
1 cup flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Nuts (optional)
Frosting (recipe follows)

Mix sugar, shortening and butter and cream together.

Add eggs, flour, cocoa powder, evaporated milk, vanilla and nuts. Mix well.

Spread into a greased 11x17-inch jellyroll pan or 9x13-inch cake pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Set pan on rack to cool.

Spread frosting on cooled brownies.

FROSTING

1 (1 pound) box confectionary sugar
3/4 cup margarine, softened
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix all ingredients for the frosting together.
