RICH AS A ROCKEFELLER IOWA BROWNIES
The great thing about this recipe is that you don't wait for chocolate to melt. They are rich and cake-like; the topping is fudgy."
FOR THE BROWNIES:
1/2 cup margarine, softened
3 cups sugar, divided use
1 (16 oz) can chocolate syrup
4 eggs
1 cup flour
1 cup chopped nuts
FOR THE TOPPING:
1 cup margarine
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup chocolate chips
TO MAKE THE BROWNIES:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 13x9x2-inch baking pan.
Cream margarine and 1 1/2 cups sugar together. Slowly add chocolate syrup, then eggs, 1 at a time beating well after each. Stir in flour and nuts. Pour into prepared baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 minutes or until done.
TO MAKE THE TOPPING:
Combine 1 cup margarine, the remaining 1 1/2 cups sugar, and milk in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil 2 minutes. Remove from heat and add chocolate chips. Stir until they are dissolved. Quickly spread on brownies.
