Recipe: Sombrero Pie

Sombrero Pie

1/2 lb. ground beef
1/2 lb. ground lean pork
1 large onion, sliced
2 1/2 cups tomato juice
1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen corn
1-2 tbsp. chili powder
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 cup olives, sliced

CORNMEAL PASTRY:
1 cup flour
1/4 cup cornmeal
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup plus 1 tbsp. shortening
3 tbsp. corn water

Brown meat and onion in a large skillet. Drain off fat.

Stir in remaining ingredients except pastry. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes.

Heat oven to 400 degrees.

Prepare pastry.
Measure flour, cornmeal and salt into bowl. Cut in shortening thoroughly. Sprinkle in water (1 tablespoon at a time) mixing until all flour is moistened. Gather into a ball; roll into a rectangle 12 x 8 inch. Fold in half lengthwise; cut slits on folded edge.

Pour meat mixture into ungreased baking dish 11 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches. Cover with pastry; seal to edge of dish.

Bake 30-35 minutes.

I don't know if this was originally a Betty Crocker recipe but if it isn't like the one you're looking for maybe you can describe it for us. Hopefully someone with the cards will come through with the right recipe.
