When I have a recipe that calls for shortening, I use real butter in the same amount as the recipe calls for shortening. I even use it pie crust. I have cooked for many years. Fat is fat but who needs hydrogenated trans fats. Only thing with the butter is that you can not use it to fry at high temps. Then I use oil.
