Recipe: Twinkies Bananas Foster

TWINKIES BANANAS FOSTER

2 bananas, halved lengthwise
2 Twinkies, halved lengthwise, well chilled
1/4 cup butter
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 tsp. ground allspice
1/4 cup banana liqueur
1/2 cup dark rum
1/4 cup pecan halves or pieces
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 cups vanilla ice cream (for serving)

Cut banana in pieces and Twinkie pieces in half crosswise. Set aside.

Melt butter in skillet over medium-high heat. Add sugar and allspice; stir to form thick paste. Cook, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes, until mixture caramelizes.

Stir in liqueur and rum. Heat about 3 minutes, until warm.

Add bananas, Twinkies, pecans; cook 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat.

Carefully ignite mixture with long match. Sprinkle cinnamon over flames for a sparkling effect. (Have a lid handy to extinguish the flame if necessary)

Scoop ice cream into 4 bowls. Ladle warm Twinkie mixture over ice cream. Serve at once.

Makes 4 servings
