WALNUT SLICES BAR COOKIES FROM 1932
FOR THE COOKIES:
1/2 cup of butter
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup shredded coconut
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 cup chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
FOR THE ICING:
1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of butter
2 tablespoons of orange juice
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
FOR THE TOPPING:
1/2 cup of chopped walnuts
Work the 1/2 cup of butter into the 1 cup of flour until smooth. Pat into
9x12 inch pan in very even layer.
Bake to a delicate brown in a 350 degree F oven for about 12 to 15 minutes.
Mix remaining cookie ingredients together and pour evenly over cooked cookie crust.
Bake 20 to 25 minutes at 350 degrees F.
Beat together the icing ingredients until smooth. Add more orange juice if necessary to make the right spreading consistency.
When cookies are cool, spread with Icing and sprinkle top with 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts. Cut in squares and serve.
