Recipe(tried): Whear berries

Misc.

I have made the honey wheat berry bread from The Bread Machine Cookbook IV by Donna German. The instructions in it say to take 1/2 cup wheat berries and 1 1/2 cups water and 3 tablespoons honey; combine in pan and bring to a rolling boil for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. cover the pan and remove from heat and let sit for 6-12 hours or overnight. Drain any standing water before adding the berries to remaining ingredients. These instructions are for a medium loaf of bread but maybe you could adjust amounts for whatever you are wanting to use them for. And I imagine you could not use the honey in there if you don't want it. I left the berries overnight and they were nice and plump the next morning.
