Recipe(tried): Witch Hat Centerpiece
Holidays, CelebrationsOur grandson visited us for the weekend and we made this along with other Halloween projects and food. The original recipe called for using a styrofoam cone in the center of this hat but we wanted to make it completely edible, so went with doing it this way.
WITCH HAT CENTERPIECE
Adapted from Halloween Food, Fun and Crafts
from the Editors of Publications International, Ltd.
6 tablespoons butter
8cups small marshmallows or 80 large marshmallows
12 cups cocoa-flavored crispy rice cereal
Nonstick spray
1/2cup vanilla cake frosting, dyed orange, plus more dyed black
Halloween decorations as desired
Melt butter in a large pot over low heat. Add marshmallows, and stir until melted.(Have big, strong DH help, this is hard to stir after a while!) Place cereal in a HUGE bowl (we used the one we use for making Thanksgiving stuffing) Pour melted marshmallow mixture over cereal and stir until combined.
Grease a 9-inch round cake pan. Press some of the cereal mixture into the cake pan to form a circle for the base of the hat. Remove the base from the cake pan and place on serving platter.
With your hands place remaining cereal mixture, a little at a time on the base, molding into a hat shape, squeezing very well to make mixture support itself. (Again, a big, strong DH helps!)
Spread or pipe a strip or two of orange frosting around the base of the cone to form the ribbon around the hat. Use a real buckle or use black frosting to form the buckle and form spiders or use plastic ones. Decorate as desired.
