Recipe(tried): WV Hot Dog Sauce (close to Frostop's)
ToppingsThis is my tried and true go-to WV hot dog sauce recipe. It's closer to Frostop's than Sams, but will get you most of the way there.
Enjoy!
Here ya go!
PROPER WV HOT DOG SAUCE
2 lbs lean ground beef
6 cups water
1 (29 oz) can tomato puree
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons fresh cracked black pepper (and fresh is key!)
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flake
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon salt (to taste, I actually put 1 teaspoon more)
DO NOT brown beef!
Mix beef in the 6 cups water by hand till all chunks are broken up, this is what makes the sauce so creamy.
After the meat is all soupy like, simply put everything else in at the same time, stir, and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat after it reaches a boil and simmer for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, till the sauce thickens into proper WV hot dog sauce consistency!
This makes plenty to freeze, so make sure you've got freezer bags handy!
Enjoy!
