ISO: Are there any Bread Machine rules a newbie should know?

HI There,

Are there any general rules that go with bread machine cooking? I am being given a machine (No, I don't know which brand but it is a 1 1/2 lb and 2 lb. loaf maker.)

Any shared wisdom will be greatly appreciated. (I'll e-mail you samples of my "work". : ) lol.
