ISO: "chess" pie similar to a pecan pie

i am looking for a recipe my great-great-granny made. she called
it chess pie, but it was not like the traditional chess pie recipes
you see (there was no cornmeal, and it wasn't yellowish). her chess
pie looked very similar to a pecan pie without the pecans. if anybody
knows what i'm talking about and has a recipe like this, my mom and i
would really appreciate it.
