ISO: chocolate/garbanzo bean cookies

Misc.
I know this recipe sounds strange, but it's delicious - at least I remember it being delicious.
My Sicilian grandmother used to make these cookies only at christmas time. I have scoured her recipe cards to no avail (not that she ever measured anything, so her cards are all but useless to me).
They were a filled cookie and the filling was made of chocolate and ground garbanzo beans (or Chi-chi beans) and spices. I think she used to deep fry them, but my memory is a little fuzzy after 30 years.
I've searched the internet as well, with no luck. My mother is getting up there and these were her favorite cookies. It would make her holiday if I could locate this recipe before christmas.
Thanks!
