ISO: Ethnic Nut Bread
Misc.My father's mother was from Croatia and her husband from Poland. They lived together in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA. She and her sisters made an amazing "rolled" nut-filled, fairly sweet bread! I believe it was a Croatian recipe, but may have been Polish. Since my grandmother did not have a written recipe, my mother tried unsuccessfully to learn by watching. The bread was rather flat and my mother recalls she used to punch the dough down. My parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters and myself long for its indescribable flavor (and texture). We've tried making variations, but alas, none can hold a candle to the long-lost-flavor of our grandmother's and great aunts' Nut Bread! Is there anyone that may know of such a recipe? The 8 of us would be so, so grateful!
