ISO: German Recipe Request - dumplings with sweet sauce (possibly using plums)

In my younger years I was going to school and living with a couple, the wife was of German descent. Her parents came to visit every winter and stayed a month or more. This mother used to make a recipe that the best I can remember had dumplings in it but the sauce was sweet and I think possibly made from plums. It was the most delicious thing and I have never been able to find anyone who might know what it was or how to make it. All that was in the household are deceased so I missed my opportunity to get the recipe. Anyone have any ideas or what it might be?
