ISO: homemade cherry cordial

I have lost a recipe for cherry cordials.
It was in amounts of 4 (ie) four pounds of fresh cherries, four cups sugar and some amount of vodka. Was it 4 cups or four quarts. It sets in a gallon jug for 30 days or more. It's an old recipe from the Pittsburgh area about the 70's. thank you. Lois
