Recipe: Food Ideas for Family in Need - Reply to Susan
Recipe CollectionsDear Susan,
How about making piroshkis? You could use premade pie crust, cut into halves, and fill them with just about anything (ground meat, potatoes and spices; chili; salmon and frozen, defrosted spinach; ham and cheese; turkey and havarti; etc.). I would suggest placing the filling on one side of the halved pie crust, folding it over, moistening and sealing it, and baking it. You could freeze them individually in baggies and your friends could simply grab them from the freezer. You could also use the tube french bread dough, or even large biscuits the same way. Mini-quiches also work well. Let your imagination be your guide. This would be something they could grab from the freezer, either defrost quickly in the microsave or allow to defrost in the car more slowly, and eat as they wished. I hope these ideas help.
I also truly hope that your friend recovers well and quickly.
Sincerely,
Marilyn, California
