ISO: mama mandolas chicken soup - question

I tried this recipe and I seem to have a funky flavor and question how much white pepper to put in, I never got the heat as in the restaurant (I was very generous with the white pepper)

Please offer suggestions. We here in St Louis lost our Carrabbas and are very sad.
