ISO: Paraffin Wax

I have a very old recipe for Buttercreams. The recipe calls for a chocolate coating which contains paraffin wax. Is paraffin wax the same as Gulf Wax? Gulf wax is the only type of paraffin wax I am able to find in the stores. I just didn't know if Gulf Wax is edible. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
