ISO: SUGAR TAMALES

When I was very ill in the hospital over the holidays, a wonderful spanish family watched over my young son, I was sent home on Christmas Eve with a new baby and found such an abundance of love and friendship gracing my house in preprepared meals, a christmas tree and gifts. In those treats was a wonderful tamale she had made. It was made of maza with raisins, very sweet, you could either steam them or eat them cold. I am not sure what they are called, we called them sugar tamales. Now that my children are older, my son and I reflect on that year and my cancer... we would like to start a tradition with the tamales as they are a special reminder of a very scarey time.... so, to surprise my son, can anyone tell me what these were called and maybe grace me with a recipe or direction in which to go and look? I tried searching under sugar tamale and came up empty. I would very much appreciate your help. Thank you, Jacque
