ISO: worlds greatest popcorn

Misc.
Help! The local farmers market in our town has a booth called the worlds greatest popcorn. It is sweet yet salty. We have watched them make this out in the open. They pop the popcorn in a deep open vat and when its good and poppin they dump in a bunch of plain sugar. when its done they dump this into another vat and sprinkle it with salt. The popcorn is not carmel but the sugar turns a little brown. I thinnk I could make this. I just can figure out a way to pop it since they pop it in a deep vat with no lid. The sugar must be added while the popcorn is popping. They sell it for $5 a bag. My kids just love it. Any suggestions on a popping method? The vat is deep so you never see any popcorn popping up while cooking.
