The "me" generation, as maturing baby boomers came to be called, indulged themselves on gooey desserts made with Cool Whip, cream cheese or ice cream and on The "me" generation, as the maturing baby boomers came to be called, indulged themselves on gooey desserts made with Cool Whip, cream cheese or ice cream and excessively fattening entrees such as fettuccine Alfredo and moussaka. Perhaps these foods brought some relief from the troubling times. Anti-war protests, Watergate and inflation all called for some kind of comfort.
1970
Hamburger Helper helped harried homemakers.
Orville Redenbacher introduced his Gourmet Popping Corn.
The sweetener cyclamate was removed from the market.

The first Starbucks opened in Seattle.
Alice Waters opened Chez Panisse in Berkeley, Calif., and started the "fresh-food" revolution.

So did Egg beaters.
