Cleaning the refrigerator

Misc.

Not so long ago, I tackled a similar "refrigerator job" that was long overdue. Had quite the build-up of brown "mystery goo" under the vegetable bins. I first put a little water over it all, then I tried a science experiment, using different products on different sections. What worked best for me was Simple Green. (Water activates it; I guess they use the stuff to clean oily goo on parts on Navy ships.) Cleanser did nothing. I followed it up with baking soda. I also used a small metal spatula that really did the trick. (I like using lots of paper towels, so I'm not rubbing around the stuff you think you washed off your sponge.)

This actually took much less time than I ever imagined. And not a spot of goo remains. After cleaning the bins, too, they now have a couple layers of paper towels in them, to help make sure I never have to do this again. (And a new refrigerator is on order -- with side bins that easily pop off for cleaning, and glass shelves that are 100% sealed, so spilled food cannot seep under the edge where it meets the glass. I can't wait!)

My two cents worth . . . Good luck!
