June.....
Misc.Hi June,
No, I haven't seen any sour orange bottles at Publix either.
Sometimes, when we are driving and my Mom spies an oprnage tree on the road, she will have me pull over to check the oranges out. Most of the time it is an old sour orange tree and she loves those.
She makes "Dulce de Naranja" with them and of course, we love to marinate chicken and pork in it. Dulce de Naranja, literally means dessert of orange...she uses the rind to make a most delicious dessert that is served with cream cheese or white cheese and crackers.
She has even made me knock on doors of houses that have orange trees in their yards. People are most gracious and say, "Sure go ahead, take all the oranges you want". Perhaps you will spy a tree sometime soon and get nervy enough to knock on the door? Always keep a paper bag or a few plaastic bags in your car, you never know when you will get lucky!!
Hugs, Gina
