Just ONE mouse, Angel? - Impossible!

Misc.

Dontcha know that my lovely daughter wanted a pet mouse of her own. After the escapades of the hampster a couple years before, we offered a dog, a cat, SOMETHING that wasn't a rodent! No, she wanted a cute little mousie. NO!
So the Science Fair came up in school. She needed one little mouse for a science experiment (can you say NO! to education???), and she and daddy built a large maze for the thing. So she carefully picks out a "little boy" mouse, and runs him through the maze. Oops - another turn in the experiment, she needed a second mouse for comparison purposes; and it would serve two purposes if she could have a "little girl" mouse too. So daddy took her to get the second mouse AND A SECOND CAGE! The cages were to be kept FAR apart. Either mice have sex by osmosis, or the pet store proprietor gleefully sold her a pregnant mouse. Somewhere I have a picture of 13 mice crawling all over her shirt...and her wearing it!
And you couldn't always tell their gender when they're young, so separating the mice as soon as you could tell STILL produced more and more litters. With 30+ mice, Mean-Old-Mommy said something's gotta go. So when she got angry at the "untrainable" mice, she'd gather that group up and trade them at the pet store for cedar chips. She was down to about 10 mice now. Then her mice discovered that they could chew through that lovely yellow plastic, and they got loose. Much to the delight of my cats, who didn't have to be coaxed into rounding them up.... for their next meal. Cats:2 Mice:0
Mommy survived and lived happily ever after.
