Missy, it's a front loading washer.

We live in Dallas county and I think the dirt is kind of orange. I have a front loading washer and they don't soak very well, they use very little water. I tried soaking these things in boiling water and lemon juice. Even tried my mom's method of lemon juice and sunlight to no avail (the dog thought I was nuts laying socks and shirts all over the patio!).

BTW, can't remember how I found this site, but I really like it!
